The shelf trial banner + mobile auto-resume

Last updated May 15, 2026 · 4 min read

The bookshelf shows a single trial-related banner at the top that swaps its content based on your subscription state — start a trial, trial countdown, or an upgrade prompt once the trial ends. On mobile, sign-in skips the shelf and drops you into your last book. This article covers both.

Slima bookshelf "My Works" — clean state with no banners: top "continue" line, Create New Work / Export, three tabs, book cards, motivation widget

The shelf trial banner

There's just one banner at the top of the shelf. It automatically swaps between three states based on your subscription:

Start a trial

Appears when: you haven't tried Pro yet and aren't subscribed.

Contents: an offer to start a Pro trial + the main features it covers + a button linking to subscribe.

Trial countdown

Appears when: you're inside a Pro trial period.

Contents: days remaining + a button linking to subscribe.

Upgrade prompt (after the trial)

Appears when: your trial has ended and you're back on the free plan.

Contents: a prompt to upgrade to unlock features + a button linking to subscribe.

Once you subscribe (paid state) the banner stops showing. There is no × close button on it — the only clickable element is the button that links to plans. See: Pick a plan

No referral or version banner? The referral banner lives inside the AI Beta Readers test-config panel, not the shelf (see Affiliate / Referral). Hitting a limit (e.g. the book-count cap) opens an upgrade modal, not a banner. New features surface via the version badge and the "What's New" modal, not a banner (see Version notifications and the version badge).

Mobile auto-resume

Open slima.ai on mobile → sign in → Slima auto-jumps into your most-recent chapter instead of stopping at the shelf.

Why this design:

  • Mobile screens are small; the multi-column shelf is data-light and unpleasant to navigate
  • The most common mobile use is "a few free minutes, keep writing" — two extra taps to the editor is a lot
  • Desktop doesn't behave this way — the desktop shelf is still useful (stats, multi-book context)

Want the shelf? Mobile editor → hamburger menu → "My Works."

When the banner goes away

The shelf trial banner has no manual off switch, and there's no banner toggle under Account settings. It only disappears on its own once you subscribe and enter the paid state.
