File tree operations

The full file-tree operation list — every action is doable via right-click or keyboard.

Create
New file
Three paths:
- + icon next to a folder name
- Right-click folder → New file
⌘N/Ctrl N(creates in the current folder)
Input field appears → type a name → Enter.
New folder
Right-click any folder → New folder.
Rename
Three triggers:
- Double-click the name
- Select +
F2 - Right-click → Rename
Renaming reflects the new name live in open tabs and the file tree. (Slima has no
[[ ]]wikilink syntax — internal links work by auto-detecting names you type; see Entity tracking.)
Delete
Right-click → Delete, or select + Del / Backspace.
A confirmation dialog warns "This will permanently delete the selected items" (deleting a folder also deletes everything inside it). Once you confirm, the file is permanently deleted — the file tree has no recycle bin to pull it back from.
To recover content, rely on single-file version history, not a trash can: while the file still exists, right-click it → View History → pick a version → restore. Once a file is deleted its history goes with it, so confirm before you delete anything important.
Multi-select
Hold Ctrl / ⌘ to pick several files — or hold Shift and click two files to select the range.
Then right-click → applies to all selected:
- Delete
- Move to folder
- Duplicate
- Mark as manuscript / reference
Clipboard
⌘X / ⌘C cut / copy → switch to target folder → ⌘V.
The clipboard only works within the same book. Switching to another book clears it, so you can't
⌘Ca file and paste it into a different book.
Drag to reorder
Just drag. You can:
- Drag a file to another folder
- Drag a folder into another folder (becomes a subfolder)
- Drag-sort — drop at a specific position within a folder (a blue line shows where)
