File tree operations

Lectura de 3 min

The full file-tree operation list — every action is doable via right-click or keyboard.

Slima Writing Studio editor: left file tree (Chapters / Notes) / centre editor / right Notes panel

Create

New file

Three paths:

  1. + icon next to a folder name
  2. Right-click folder → New file
  3. ⌘N / Ctrl N (creates in the current folder)

Input field appears → type a name → Enter.

New folder

Right-click any folder → New folder.

Rename

Three triggers:

  • Double-click the name
  • Select + F2
  • Right-click → Rename

Renaming doesn't break wikilinks — change [[Chapter 1]] to "Chapter 1 revision" and every internal link auto-updates.

Delete

Right-click → Delete, or select + Del / Backspace.

Confirm → goes to this book's trash (not the global trash — that's at the book level).

Restore: file tree top "Show trash" icon → find the file → "Restore."

Per-book trash keeps 30 days, then permanent.

Multi-select

Hold Ctrl / to pick several files — or hold Shift and click two files to select the range.

Then right-click → applies to all selected:

  • Delete
  • Move to folder
  • Duplicate
  • Mark as manuscript / reference

Clipboard

⌘X / ⌘C cut / copy → switch to target folder → ⌘V.

Cross-book works too: ⌘C a file → switch books → ⌘V.

Drag to reorder

Just drag. You can:

  • Drag a file to another folder
  • Drag a folder into another folder (becomes a subfolder)
  • Drag-sort — drop at a specific position within a folder (a blue line shows where)

Move files across books

To move a file from book A to book B:

  1. ⌘C in A
  2. Switch to B via the Studio Switcher
  3. ⌘V to paste
