AI Floating Toolbar + Selection Menu (toolbar overview)

Last updated May 29, 2026 · 3 min read

Slima offers two AI action surfaces: the AI panel tab bar (a thin row of tabs at the top of the right AI panel for switching between chat and analysis) and the selection menu (floats out when you highlight text). This article indexes both from the toolbar perspective; the linked articles cover usage in depth.

AI Floating Toolbar

A thin row of tabs at the very top of the right AI panel, shown only when an AI panel is open. It has one chat tab, four analysis tabs (pacing / dialogue / repetition / consistency), and an AI Memory button, used to switch between chat and the various analyses.

Selection Menu

Highlight any text in the editor → a small menu floats with quick AI actions targeted at that selection (rewrite / polish / expand / shorten / more).

How they differ

AI Panel Tab Bar Selection Menu
When it appears When an AI panel is open On text selection
Requires selection No Yes
Primary use Switch chat / chapter analysis Act on the selection directly

Using both

The tab bar only appears when the right AI panel is open; the selection menu only floats out when you highlight text. Neither has a separate on/off setting — reach AI through the right panel (💬 AI Coach) whenever you need it.
