Dialogue Insight

Last updated May 15, 2026 · 2 min read

Dialogue Insight looks at the balance and rhythm between dialogue and narration — flagging passages that need more dialogue and ones that have too much.

What it scores

It analyses the balance and rhythm between dialogue and narration in the chapter, sorting issues into two kinds:

  • Needs more dialogue — a stretch that is all narration/exposition with no one speaking
  • Excessive dialogue — back-to-back dialogue with no narration or action to breathe

Each suggestion is tagged with a severity (high / medium / low) and comes with the original text, a suggested fix, and an explanation, shown inline in the editor.

Problems it catches

  • Long narration with no dialogue → the scene feels distant and hard to engage with
  • Wall-to-wall dialogue → no narration or action to anchor the rhythm
  • Lopsided passages → flagged so you can decide whether to add dialogue or narration
