Comprehensive export guide

Done writing, want to take it with you? Slima's 6 export formats cover every case.

Slima Writing Studio editor as a visual reference: left file tree / centre editor with format toolbar / right Notes panel

6 formats

Format Use
Slima backup (.slima) Full backup, re-importable to any Slima account
Zip Compressed archive that keeps the folder structure
Markdown (.md) Programmable, portable, git-friendly
Word (.docx) Send to editor / publisher
EPUB Kindle / Apple Books (Starter plan and up)
Plain text (.txt) Simple backup

How

Three paths:

1 · Batch export from My Works

My Works → enter selection mode → tick books → Export Toolbar at the bottom → pick format

2 · In-book export

Inside a book: App / File menu → Export → format menu pops up (on mobile, the More sheet)

3 · File-tree right-click

Right-click a file or folder in the in-book file tree → Export → pick format (folders can also merge or keep files separate)

Scope

Before export:

  • Whole book
  • Specific chapters
  • Specific folder (e.g. only "Chapters", not "Notes")

The export dialog

The export dialog does just two things: pick a format (6 of them) and show preview stats (file count, word count, file size). There are no cover, TOC, chapter-page-break, acknowledgement-page or style-theme options. When you export a folder you can additionally choose to merge everything into one file or keep files separate.

Pre / post

  • Export doesn't need a save — Slima always auto-saves, exports current state
  • Export doesn't affect the source book

Plan limits

EPUB export requires the Starter plan or above. Every other format is unlimited, and there is no monthly export-count cap.
