Set up your writing habit: the 4-step wizard
Last updated May 22, 2026 · 3 min read
On the Writing Studio bookshelf, the motivation card's "Set Up My Writing Habit" button runs a short 4-step wizard that helps you set up the "write every day" habit. This article walks through what each step asks.

How to reach the wizard
Enter Writing Studio → motivation card top-right on the bookshelf → click "Set Up My Writing Habit".
This button only appears on the motivation card while your habit isn't set yet. Once you finish, the card switches to showing your streak and a writing quote instead.
The 4-step flow
Step 1 · What kind of writer do you want to be?
Four options:
- Finish my first book
- Build a daily writing habit
- Publish-quality work
- Custom goal (type your own)
Purpose: you're picking an identity, not a numeric target. The motivation system follows this identity afterward. Choose one and click "Next" (or "Skip").
Step 2 · Build a writing habit
Titled "Build a writing habit", with the subline "Start with one small commitment," then the question "Are you ready to write every day?"
Two buttons:
- I am ready
- Maybe later
Design intent: the point isn't "write 500 words a day" — it's building the habit of writing every day at all.
Step 3 · When you write, and what cues you
Two questions:
- "When does writing work best for you?" — a time picker (e.g. 8:30 AM)
- "What cue tells you to start?" — four options: After morning coffee / After work / After kids are asleep / Custom
Purpose: anchor "writing" right after something you already do — habit stacking. The footer says "You can set this later," so this step is skippable.
Step 4 · Plant your writing seed
The final step: "Your writing seed is planted," with the subline "Water it daily, watch it grow." Click "Start writing" to finish.
Back on the bookshelf, that seed is the starting point of your writing tree — writing every day from now on is how you water it.
What if I skip?
Every step is skippable, and you can close the whole thing. After skipping:
- The tree starts in its seed state
- Your streak counts from your first writing day
- The setup entry stays on the motivation card, re-runnable any time
