Structure templates: 4 built-in (Three-Act / Taiwanese TV / Kishotenketsu / Freytag)

Lectura de 4 min

Scene Board supports structure templates — entering the Scenes view for the first time prompts a "Choose a Structure" dialog with 4 built-in templates + custom. Templates help you plan scenes around recognised structural rhythms.

Slima Scene Board "Choose a Structure" dialog: MY CUSTOM TEMPLATES + 4 BUILT-IN: Three-Act Structure / Taiwanese TV (3 Acts / 6 Beats) / Kishotenketsu / Freytag's Pyramid (5 parts)

The four built-in templates

1. Three-Act Structure

"The most common classical structure, suitable for most stories" — i18n confirmed.

Three acts:

  • Act 1 (Setup): world / characters / inciting situation
  • Act 2 (Confrontation): obstacles / rising conflict / midpoint turn
  • Act 3 (Resolution): climax + ending

The most widely used Western dramatic structure.

2. Taiwanese TV (3 Acts / 6 Beats)

"Opening / Inciting / Turn / Development / Climax / Wrap — popular rhythm for Taiwanese drama" — i18n confirmed.

Three acts broken into six beats:

  • Opening
  • Inciting
  • Turn
  • Development
  • Climax
  • Wrap

Suitable for Taiwanese idol drama, family drama, workplace drama rhythms.

3. Kishotenketsu

"East Asian four-part structure emphasising the unexpected 'twist'" — i18n confirmed.

Traditional East Asian 4-part narrative:

  • Ki: introduction
  • Sho: development
  • Ten: unexpected twist (the core)
  • Ketsu: conclusion

Not reliant on binary Western conflict — good for poetic / literary / contemplative work.

4. Freytag's Pyramid (5 parts)

"Classical drama structure: exposition / rising / climax / falling / denouement" — i18n confirmed.

Five segments mapped to five emotional peaks, suited to tragedy / epic.

Picking a template

In Scenes view, the first "Choose a Structure" dialog lets you pick any template — the board generates the matching Act / Beat columns.

To swap templates later: a settings entry / "Manage My Templates" inside Scenes lets you re-select.

Important: templates are suggested column structures only — your scenes can be dragged across any act / beat at any time. Templates don't enforce anything; they give a visual scaffolding.

Custom templates

If none of the four fit your story rhythm, create a custom structure template.
