Start, progress, cancel
Last updated June 3, 2026 · 3 min read
What happens after "Start" is pressed on the set-up screen.

Start
Confirm the cost estimate → "Start" → Slima:
- Swaps the workspace to the progress view for this run
- Starts running
(There's no separate "In progress" list — the run shows up in the Reading History tab on the left once it finishes.)
Progress page
Shows:
- Progress bar + percentage
- Status grid — each chosen reader (then, if you included the editor, each editor dimension) lights up one by one as it finishes, with a completed / total counter
- A fixed "Estimated 2-5 minutes" note
- A small ✕ button to cancel
You can leave
The progress view updates by polling while the tab stays open:
- Switch to another book and write
- Keep the tab open and the bar keeps moving
Note: the in-page progress relies on the tab staying open — if you close it, the bar stops updating. There's no completion notification (no desktop alert, email, or red dot); just reopen the work later and the finished report will be waiting in the Reading History tab.
Cancel a reading
On the progress view, the small ✕ button stops the run immediately:
- No confirmation prompt — it aborts right away
- It returns you to the set-up screen
- No partial report is kept
Failed / stuck
Rare but possible: a run fails (rate limit, timeout, etc.). The progress view then shows the error message and a Back link:
- Back returns you to the set-up screen
- To try again, re-run from the set-up screen (a fresh run, from the start)
- Multiple failures → use Report a bug or Contact support from inside Slima
