Word limit and upgrade prompt
Last updated May 29, 2026 · 3 min read
Your book is over your plan's per-run word ceiling — you've hit the cap.

Caps per tier
Exact numbers at /plans (subject to change).
Rough scale:
| Tier | Per-run word ceiling |
|---|---|
| Free | Small (short pieces, opening tests) |
| Starter | Medium (novellas) |
| Pro | Large (full novels) |
| Team | Per plan |
Hitting the cap
When the set-up exceeds the ceiling, the word-count line turns into a red warning banner that reads roughly:
Exceeds N word limit
Reduce content or upgrade
It's plain text only (no buttons). At the same time the Start button greys out — you have to bring the word count under the limit (or upgrade) before you can run it.
Workaround: limit scope
Uncheck later chapters until total fits — still get a reading (just not the whole book).

Upgrade
The red banner itself has no upgrade button. The real upgrade CTA appears on the set-up screen when your report quota runs out:
- "Upgrade plan" → opens your account subscription page (see Subscribe or upgrade)
- "Buy Report Pack" → opens the reports page (see Buy a report pack)
