Set up a reading: workspace layout

Last updated May 29, 2026 · 3 min read

The set-up screen has two columns: a left panel where you choose content and view history, and a center column where you set up the run top to bottom. What each does:

AI Beta Readers set-up workspace layout: left panel content / history, center column selected content / service choice / config / report quota with Start button

Left panel: content / history

The left panel has two tabs:

  • Select Content — the work's file tree, where every file / chapter is checkable (multi-select). This is where you actually choose what gets read. A script work is auto-assembled into a single item.
  • Reading History — past readings for this work; click one to reopen its report.

See: Select content

Center column: top to bottom

Once content is selected, the center column stacks these sections from top to bottom:

1 · Selected content

Lists the files you checked in the left panel as a row of compact chips — each chip shows the filename and that file's word count — with a footer giving the file count and total word count. A script work shows a single "whole script" chip. This region is preview only; you still check / uncheck in the left file tree.

2 · Service choice

Two toggle cards, which can both be on:

  • AI Beta Reader
  • Slima AI Editor

See: Pick service

3 · Config

Depends on which services you turned on:

  • AI Beta Reader on → persona picker
  • Slima AI Editor on → 5-dimension checkboxes

Turn both on and both appear. See: Personas / Editor dimensions

4 · Report quota and Start

At the bottom of the center column:

  • The report quota this run uses
  • Your remaining reports
  • "Start Reading" button

See: Report quota and cost
