Reader drops peak earliest at the opening. Revising the opening has the highest ROI of any section.
Scored dimensions
The opening diagnostic uses four dimensions:

| Hook | Does the first line / first paragraph make me want to read on |
| Setting | Time / place / protagonist quickly clear |
| Question | Is there a "what happens next" pull |
| Action | Is the protagonist doing something (vs introspection / description) |
Each 0–10, summed for the section score.
What the report tells you
- Score per dimension
- AI quotes from your opening pointing at strong / weak lines
- Improvement suggestions: "The first 3 lines aren't specific enough; try…"
Common opening pitfalls
- Long scenic description → no action visible
- Direct introspection → no external anchor
- Weather / time set-up lead → cliché
- Too many characters at once → reader confused
- No question → reader has no pull forward
How to fix
The "Send to AI Coach" button at the top-right of the diagnostic — passes the finding into the Coach for a discussion of how to revise.
